Philosophy for Senior Pupils

The study of philosophy equips a person with skills which are highly valued, universally applicable, and can complement any educational pursuit. The benefits of philosophy are widely recognised by academics and educators. There is a growing movement that aims to introduce philosophy at primary school level so children have access to these benefits as early as possible to aid them in their future educational endeavors. To this end we are privileged to have had four philosophy lessons for 4th to 6th class from Dr Alessandro Salice this term. All pupils were really engaged with the lessons and came up with some very interesting ideas. The lessons dealt with the following 'big questions'

  • “The Skeptical Argument"

  • “Personal Identity"

  • "The Meaning of Life"

Alessandro who lectures in philosophy at UCC is a parent of one of our pupils and kindly volunteered his time.
